Cub Scout Program

There are five levels of Cub Scouting, from Tigers (first grade) through WEBELOS II (fifth grade), which are designed to teach the boys outdoor and life skills, and to prepare the Cubs for the Boy Scout program. All boys at a given age level work in a den, and the dens together make up the pack.

Our pack is a part of the SoQua District ( Buncombe County), of the Daniel Boone Council (western NC) of the BSA. Tigers must have a parent or adult family member (Tiger Coach) with them at all Scout functions. Parents are to remain actively involved and attend meetings with the boys as they progress through the levels of Cub Scouts.

New boys at any age must first earn the Bobcat Rank, which teaches boys the fundamentals of Cub Scouting, including the Cub Scout sign, oath and salute. Then boys can work on achievements to earn their respective Tiger, Wolf or Bear ranks, depending on their grade level. Later they can work on electives to earn beads (Tigers) or arrow points (Wolves and Bears). Boys in WEBELOS earn activity badges in various subject areas as they work on their WEBELOS badge and later the Arrow of Light, the highest award in Cub Scouting.

During these later years, they camp and work closely with the Boy Scouts of Troop 15. These topics are explained in detail in the various Cub Scout books for each level of scouting. The Cub Scouting advancement plan provides fun for the boys, gives them a sense of personal achievement as they earn badges, and strengthens family understanding as adult family members work with boys on advancement projects.

Families and friends are invited to attend Pack Meetings, where Cubs receive awards. Siblings are discouraged from attending Den Meetings, without permission from the Den Leader.
